Hot Cascara Apple Cider

The holidays are upon us and what better way to celebrate the flavors of the season than whipping up a hot apple cider to share with your loved ones. Made with dried coffee cherries, or cascara, this unique apple cider might just be the perfect beverage for Christmas morning. It's a lovely and naturally sweet alternative to coffee—while still offering a serious kick of caffeine. And, it will make your home smell incredible!

This recipe is incredibly easy to make and it only requires 30 minutes on the stove top. The result is a beautifully rich, and flavorful beverage that tastes both crisp and like it has been mulling all day.

1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Method:
1. Chop apples and then process in a food processor.
2. Place apples, water, cascara, and spices in a pot. Stir and bring to a boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes or until the Apple bits are mostly clear, stirring occasionally.
3. Using a fine mesh sieve, filter hot cider into a Chemex or other appropriate serving vessel.
4. Enjoy & Happy Holidays!

If you have a Chemex, it is a great vessel for both straining and serving the hot cider. Of course you can serve the cider in mugs, but presenting it in glasses allows you to see it's gorgeous color. Check out the video tutorial below...
